Adaptation of the French play with the action relocated to Sussex. Peter Sellars stars as General Leo Fitzjohn who moves to Sussex only to find retirement fraught with more danger.
The film opens with a horse and carriage breaking the speed limit, through the narrow roads of Alfriston to arrive at the Star Inn, where a mysterious Mademoiselle disembarks and enters.
