Summerland was filmed on location throughout Sussex in 2018. Seaford Head and scenes looking back towards the Coastguard cottages and the Seven Sisters feature.
Brighton Station was sent back in time for some scenes with extras dressed in 40s garb and Herstmonceux was used for flashbacks and scenes set in an Oxford college.
Gemma Arterton plays Alice whose life takes a turn when an evacuee boy is placed in her care. At first she resolves to get rid of him, but he soon wins her over and she discovers that sometimes imagination really can set you free.
The film also stars Dame Penelope Wilton, Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Tom Courtenay.
With its theme of finding light amongst the dark, it’s a touching, moving and thoughtful watch.
