When Mackenzie Crook and the BBC announced they were bringing back the Scatterbrook scarecrow, we had our doubts it would beat the Jon Pertwee/ Southern TV version, but we were wrong. This charming and thoughtful version has been a big hit.
The Saucy Nancy episode features extensive filming of the Costguard Cottages and the beach and riverside. All the more remarkable because it was filmed during the pandemic and during bad weather.
“It was absolutely wild weather when we were filming: torrential rain one minute then sunny,” Remembers Shirley Henderson who played Saucy Nancy. “But I grew up with all of that. I know it. It really took me back, and I loved it. There was something magical about the wildness and I think it will look incredible on camera.”
