Mister Drake’s Duck

Mr Drakes Duck

Mr. Drake (Douglas Fairbanks Jr.) inherits “Green Acres Farm” in Sussex, in the English countryside, and moves in with his new American bride Penny (Yolande Donlan). Through a misunderstanding, Penny unexpectedly finds herself the proud owner of 60 ducks.

Filming for this gently comedy took place in Steyning, including the market, and in Ashurst.

Ros Gold provided this memory of the filming, in an interview with the Steyning Museum;

‘In 1950 while I was taking my school certificate I had time off and I was an extra in the film “Mr Drake’s Duck” which was shot at Steyning Market and I got, £2 – 10 shillings (£2.50) a day which was wonderful.’
